Mambo Cafe is a popular stall in Aberdeen Centre specializing in HK style Cafe food. Mambo has your quintessential HK breakfast staples like Spam and Macaroni, french toast, sandwiches and also a variety of rice/noodle dishes. Their most popular dishes are their baked pork chop on rice (which I've reviewed before), the baked seafood rice, beef on rice noodle, curry brisket and Singapore vermicelli.
Yuanyeng Fried Rice
Mambo is quite generous with their portion sizes and toppings, so you definitely get your money's worth. They definitely didn't skimp on the shrimp in this dish either! There was an abundant amount of shrimp, as well as chicken. The rice itself isn't fried rice, it's actually plain white rice, so I'm not sure why they would be compelled to call it fried rice. The rice is drowned in cheese and tomato sauce, with pieces of peas and carrots.
It definitely didn't taste as good as it smelled! The entire dish was very fragrant, but tasted rather bland. After reading some reviews online, it seemed that I wasn't the only one that thought that Mambo's sauces were under seasoned. I was rather disappointed, since the Baked Pork Chop on Rice that I had before was spot on and really flavourful!
Lemon Iced Tea3/5 stars
Hot drinks are included in your meal and cold drinks are $1 more. This is your basically your typical HK style iced tea. I would have preferred the tea to be less diluted, but the level of sweetness is just right.
