McKim Wonton Mein Saga
In case you missed it: you can read my previous review here: http://www.vancitynoms.com/2014/06/mckim-wonton-mein-saga-richmond.html
In other exciting news, I'm going to a cheese tasting at Forage today! :D A blog post about that will be coming your way very soon!
Zha Liang (or chinese doughnut rice rolls) is one of my favourite cantonese comfort foods! I don't know, there's just something about biting into greasy dough that appeals to me ;)
This was a great version of zha liang! The chinese doughnut was super crunchy (which I prefer) crispy, and airy! It wasn't doughy at all so you can easily eat an entire plate of these without feeling stuffed! The rice rolls was really thin, elastic, and bouncy. The sauce was the perfect balance between savoury and sweet! They used liquid sauce instead of paste which prevented it from becoming soggy. But for those of you who like soft chinese doughnuts, you may not like this.
Stir Fried Rice Cake
This was one of their lunch menu! The portion size was quite large and could have easily fed two people! I ended up packing most of it home haha. The rice cakes were cooked properly, chewy with a glutinous texture. It tasted predominately like soy sauce, rendering the dish rather flat toned. It was garnished with some sesame seeds and there was also some peas and shredded carrot in it.
Fun fact: I use to call these "skateboard cakes" in Mandarin when I was a kid haha! Get it? Cause the pieces resemble skateboards? ...yes I'm lame.
