Pappa Roti - Amazing Buns!!

Pappa Roti specializes in Roti...wait, not that kind of roti! Not the kind you eat with curry LOL! I'm talking about roti buns, also known as coffee buns! :D Pappa Roti is a chain that first started in Malaysia, but they now have locations all over the world, with their Vancouver store being the first in North America! They're known for their amazing buns and coffee, and since I was still hungry after going to Spaghettei hehehe, I decided to pop in and grab myself a bun LOL!

SIGNATURE DISHES
All of their roti buns are baked fresh daily, to ensure freshness! You can buy their buns seperately for $3.50, or go for one of their "combos" which comes with toppings, for $5.50! They have 4 different combinations for you to choose from, strawberry fields, the classic, maple eh, and crazy for kaya!

SERVICE 4/5 stars
My experience at Pappa Roti's was great! When I was ordering the girl was patient and really polite! They give you a stand with a number on it and when your order is ready they'll bring it to your table! The table I sat at was pretty dirty, but the girl apologized and cleaned up the area for me! When I left she said "Have a good one!"

AMBIANCE - Casual
Pappi Roti's is really bright, with natural sunlight streaming in from the windows! They have a large communal table, with smaller tables surrounding it at the front, a small outdoor seating area, and more seating in the back! They have these really cool industrial light fixtures hanging from the ceiling, which I thought was pretty neat haha!!

PRICE - $/$$/$$$
At first I thought the buns were really overpriced, I mean, $3.50 for a single bun? C'mon! But then I took a bite and I totally understood why LOL. Imo, the taste totally justified the price haha!! You get what you pay for! They also have other drinks like coffee/tea which are all around the $3-6 mark which is pretty standard for a shop of this calibre.

VALUE - Poor/Okay/Good/Great
The bun was quite large, and my combo came with quite a lot of honey and jam! The bun was really well made and you can tell that they use quality ingredients because everything tasted really fresh!

$5.50 Crazy for Kaya
Bun 4/5 stars
This was my first time having a coffee bun (LOL crazy right?) so I don't really have anything to compare to, but this was so awesomee!! It came straight out of the oven so it was still warm when I got it! The exterior is really crispy and dusted with sugar and a light coating of cinnamon which adds just the right amount of sweetness. The bun itself is super light, airy and fluffy!! The interior is glazed with butter, which just makes it that much better!! :D
The bun is crispy on the bottom...so yum! :D

Kaya Jam 4/5 stars
Honey 3/5 stars

Kaya Jam is actually coconut & egg jam!! Woah, I never knew such a thing existed LOL. At first I couldn't tell what it was, and I was like "This tastes familiar!" but I couldn't pinpoint it. And then it dawned on me: "This tastes like egg!!!" LOL!! The jam itself was really goppy in texture and super thick. It was pretty sweet, and the egg flavour was really prominent, but I couldn't pick up any traces of coconut whatsoever. The honey was really thick, and thankfully tasted like real honey LOL. Yes, fake honey exists lol!

THE VERDICT
Overall, if you've never tried coffee buns, you should definitely check out Pappa Roti, because the buns here are delicious! This place is really busy, so it isn't really ideal for studying, but it's a great place to wind down after a long day of shopping (and eating lol) on Robson!! I'll definitely be back for your buns, Pappa!! :D
