The Hub Restuarant - Sushi burger?
Sometimes convenience trumps everything. Which means I (usually) have to resort to eating somewhere not-so-interesting because of time contraints and the fact that I don't drive haha. So easily assessable places are usually at the top of my list for a quick bite to eat (especially when I'm famished after a long day of classes.)
We were in a rush yesterday because my mom and I went to get our passports renewed and we wanted to get there before they closed haha. We're going away in a few weeks, which is superrr exciting (more on that later...don't worry, I'll be blogging there hehe) We just realized that our passports were close to expiring, and our trip is only weeks away...lol, hey, better than finding out when we get to the airport right? ;)
We were looking for a quick lunch spot near a skytrain station, but neither of us wanted fresh slice or tim hortons lol. I remembered going to the Hub (located on the New West skytrain platform) a couple of months back, and the food was pretty decent, so we decided to give it another go! To my surprise the place was packed with people celebrating someone's birthday haha. For a restuarant located on a skytrain platform, the place's pretty nice lol. Spacious, bright, and modern, it wouldn't be out of place in a trendier neighbourhood!
Crab Grilled Cheese $15.50
My mom had the crab grilled cheese! I saw sooo many people ordering this haha! During our meal literally 6 orders of this passed by our table! The crab grilled cheese has gruyere, aged cheddar, and it was served with a vodka cocktail sauce! She really liked it and she commented that the bread was super buttery, fragrant, and perfectly toasted! The crab meat was tender, and had lots of flavour. The vodka dipping sauce that came on the side was really interesting, it really did taste like alcohol!
This was pretty good as well! Nothing too fancy, but still a solid salad, nonetheless. Sprinkled with some pecans and shredded cheese, the leaves were fresh and crunchy, and dressed in a light vinaigrette.
2.5/5 starsI had the sushi burger! How can you say no to sushi...in burger form? LOL! The sushi burger has sesame seed encrusted albacore tuna, avocado, wasabi mayo, cucumber, lettuce, and it was served with a soy chilli dip!
The description sounded awesome, but in reality, the different flavours just didn't really work together. The ingredients on there own were fine, the tuna was nice and fresh, and the sesame seeds were a great contrast to the mushiness of the tuna. But combined with the wasabi mayo, it just tasted odd. The wasabi mayo was too overpowering so instead I took out the pieces of tuna and ate them separately, it was more enjoyable that way. The burger tasted really light haha, and the avocado and greens really made it feel healthier lol.
The fries were solid, they tasted really potatoey! They leave the skins on rendering the edges nice and crispy! The rocksalt added a good amount of flavour without being overpowering.
