Enter: Togo Sushi. Unlike the other sushi places on campus (which are all located on the main campus) Togo Sushi is located in Westbrook Village - in the same plaza as Chef Hung's and Save on Foods!
Togo Sushi is a chain with locations all over the lower mainland!! They mainly cater towards transit users, students, and "the lunch rush" crowd ~ hence the name "To go." Their prices aren't exactly cheap though, their prices are in line with most casual Japanese restaurants!!
The day that I went (during lunch on a Tuesday) the place was absolutely packed, and I actually had to wait in line for 10 mins!! I got my food fairly quickly but I had to wait for a seat - the restaurant itself is so small!!
BC Roll, Chicken Teriyaki Roll, Beef Teriyaki Roll
BC Roll: 3/5 stars
Teriyaki Rolls: 2.5/5 stars
The rolls were okay. The rice was a little warm, but other than that, it was perfectly fine! The beef was a bit dry (read: stale) for my liking, as was the chicken. The BC roll had a generous amount of salmon in it, but there wasn't a whole lot of skin, it was mostly meat!
I wish I lived at Westbrook ~ then I wouldn't have to spend 4 hours commuting to and from UBC!!
There's also that Japanese restaurant underneath One more Sushi in UBC village. I forget what it's called, but I don't think you listed it. Most of my friends enjoy it the best of all the options on campus. There's salmon in particular is supposed to be really good. I've had it on a few occasions in the past, but my memory is foggy.
ReplyDeletehaha Mio Japan right? Now that I think about it, there's also a sushi stall in the International Food Court!!
DeleteOhh I didn't know Mio had sashimi!! I'll have to try it out, thanks Food Wench!! :D
That place (int'l food court in basement of UBC Village Bldg) is Chinese-run/owned. McSushi grade, but quite cheap for sure.
DeleteMcSushi LOL...it's campus food afterall! ;)
DeleteWell, as far as fast food sushi restaurants go, I can't find anything better than Togo! The UBC location isn't the best, but the one at New West Station is quite remarkable for a fast food restaurant.
ReplyDeleteI still haven't been to Suga Sushi. I don't know if they still have that "5 items for $25" combo anymore, but I'd love to try it out someday! The only problem is that I don't have your eating capabilities, and 5 items plus a special roll is a bit much...
Ohh I've passed by the New West one so many times, haven't given them a second thought, until now!! Maybe I'll try them out!! :D
DeleteLOL oh c'mon Raymond, YOU CAN DO IT!! 5 items and a special roll? Pftt, that's nothing ;)
Let me know how it goes if you get around to trying it!
Delete5 items and a special roll is like All You Can Eat to me but 2x worse! D=
Maybe, Selina and Raymond can go together and do a dual review of the place in New West.
ReplyDeleteI've been wondering/hoping for that for awhile now.
DeleteI have a 3 hour break so I just bus to Sushi Gallery or Green Leaf haha
ReplyDeleteI love Sushi Gallery haha!! I really want to try out Green Leaf, so many UBC students go there! :D
