BT HK Cafe

Oh lookie here, I'm back at another HK Cafe!! I've been on a HK style curry kick lately. I've eaten 3 chinese curries in the past week! I just can't get enough of that creamy texture!! ^^

Mui Garden is still my favourite place for HK style curry (dat brisket tho!) BT Cafe surprised me, I wasn't expecting their curry to be that great, but it was actually really good!

We were handed their mini set menu, but after inquiring, the waitress said I could "supersize" my meal for a mere $2 more! (In actuality, their larger size is just their dinner portion.)

My mom got one of their meat combos, and she declared that she was content after seeing the portion size. When it comes to food, my mom values quantity over quality (even more so than my dad.)

Red Curry w/ Deep Fried Pork Chop $10.50 (Large Size +$2)
4/5 stars

This was surprisingly great for a HK Cafe!! They have two types of curries to choose from: green or red! This tasted similar to a Thai red curry (but was considerably milder.) The bowl it came in was pretty deep, but there was lots of curry to go around! To my surprise, this came with not 1, but 2 pieces of pork chop, stacked on top of each other!! There was also some green and red peppers on the bottom!

Pan Fried Chicken, Pork Chop w/ Demi-Glaze Sauce $10.50
3.5/5 stars

My mom had the 2 item meat combo!! This also comes with their daily soup and a drink of your choice. She remarked that the chicken was reasonably tender. The pork chop on the other hand, was a bit dry. The sauce had a heavy wine flavour, and she kept eating it with the rice :D

Daily Soup
1.5/5 stars

Unlike other HK Cafes, we didn't have a choice to what soup we wanted (russian borscht or cream.) They only had cream, so that's the one we got! My mom thought that this was overly cornstarchy, and rather unpleasant. She still finished it though!

HK Style Tea
3.5/5 stars

The tea they serve in these cups is different from their regular tea, this is the tea they use to make their dong lai cha, so it's more potent/bitter!

To my delight ~ we got a very generous helping of rice!

  1. That Red Curry with Deep Fried Pork Chop looks really tasty! Do you think I would be able to handle it based on my performance in that Spicy Noodle Challenge? LOL

    1. The spiciness level was -50 (yes minus) hahaha! It wasn't spicy...at all!! But judging from your spicy noodle challenge, you would probably rate it as a 3/10 (or more) on the spiciness scale LMAO!! Do you eat HK style curry often? :D

    4. LOL it's because my parents don't eat anything that's remotely spicy, and I usually do not visit HK cafes by myself. Interestingly though, we have had Thai curry a few times (because when you're at a Thai restaurant, it's hard not to order anything spicy)!

    5. I was at BT the week before last !!

I hadn't been there in at least 2 years or so. I ordered the stir-fried beef rice noodles (it was ok). But maybe I'll get the pork chops + curry next time ! (I actually waffled between going to BT or Hoy's just up the street, they have very good curry beef brisket).

The funny part was when I went up to the cashier to pay, the lady told me they only take cash (which I didn't have). Guess it's been too long since I've been there after all. Had to walk a block and half to that Korean bank/ATM on the north side of Kingsway to get my dough. The lady was very nice and shrugged it off with a laugh.

With complimentary coffee, my meal was decent, esp. considering there's nowhere else along the entire Kingsway strip to get just a cup of coffee at that time of evening.
