Hi Nippon ft. Raymond's Sushi Adventures!!
Everybody needs a food blogger bff (or just someone to go on food adventures with.) I think you guys can probably fancy a guess to who my food blogger bff is...das righttt, none other than Mr. 4.29 GPA Raymond Zeng!! (How someone can maintain a GPA that high on 3 hours of sleep is beyond me.)
You guys probably know him from Raymond's Sushi Adventures, he's the only food blogger I really keep in touch with. I'm pretty shy around new people so I don't go to events that often.
We keep in touch on messenger. I have him listed as MA BLOGGER BFF *heart heart heart* and he has me listed as Food Blogger BFF xD.
He's a pretty busy guy so we only get to see each other once or twice a year, but when we do...all hell breaks loose. I'm talking 6+ plates of food between the two of us, a gazillion snapchat stories, letting all of our food go cold whist we're incessantly snapping pics...you get the picture. (Raymond can fill you in on the details.)
I met up with Raymond a few weeks ago after school and we went to Hi Nippon for dinner. I've never blogged about Hi Nippon before but I use to go there almost everyday (back when I lived in Kits with Jeremy.) The girls there knew my order by heart: 3 avocado rolls please!
Aburi Salmon Oishi
Raymond had this, and judging by his reaction, I would assume it was okay? It goes without saying that Miku is leagues better, but in a pinch, this'll suffice. They were pretty generous with the salmon as well!
Ehh, not really sure what to make of this. This honestly looked (and tasted) like AYCE tonkatsu (save for the decorative lemon on the side.) A bit hard and not at all moist.
Maybe I'm being more critical than usual because I know Raymond is going to see this and either agree or disagree with me lol. I thought the tempura was plenty good but Raymond wasn't so enthused. I'm sure he's had more tempura than me in his lifetime as a sushi connoisseur so I'll take his word for it!
Avocado Roll & Yam Tempura Roll
I've had Hi Nippon's avocado rolls 100 times over (if not more.) I think they changed itamaes because the avocado rolls have gone down hill. They were so much better during the summer! I mean, they weren't bad but they were definitely better before.
Who doesn't love a good appetizer sashimi? This one was decent in that the cuts were fresh; it even came with sockeye salmon (as opposed to the usual farmed salmon.) I actually prefer the taste and texture of farmed salmon but hey, each to their own!
In Raymond's words: "The best KFC imitation I've ever had at a Japanese restaurant." I'm always disappointed when restaurants have "kaarage" listed on their menu and they turn out to be chicken wings. I mean, I don't have anything against wings, I just want proper kaarage! These were decent, similar to something you would get at a pub.
